About Us

Our Mission

Nilaari Agency is a community based drug treatment provider that delivers accessible, high quality and culturally appropriate counselling, advocacy and support primarily to Black Asian & Minority Ethnic (BAME) adults and young people in Bristol who are involved in or at risk of misusing drugs and alcohol.  However, anyone in need can access our services.
The term Black refers to people who share a common experience of discrimination in the United Kingdom on account of their colour or racial origin.

Our Vision

Nilaari advocates that every individual in any community with issues related to substance misuse should have access to non-judgemental, confidential and person centred treatment.
Aims

  • Nilaari’s primary aim is to improve the emotional and physical health of adults and young people from BAME communities who misuse or are at risk of misusing drugs or alcohol in Bristol.
  • Nilaari’s secondary aim is to reduce drug related crime and its impact on individuals and communities.

History

The Nilaari Agency came into existence in the mid nineties as a spontaneous reaction to issues identified by local people concerned about drug use in their community.

In 1999 the organisation changed its name from the St Paul’s & Easton Drugs Awareness Group to the Nilaari Agency to reflect the change of focus to an adult citywide service.

Every effort is made to target the Bristol BAME communities as these groups are under represented in drug & alcohol treatment services locally and across the UK.

The Nilaari agency is a charitable organisation managed by an Executive Board of volunteers that are local people elected at a Annual General Meeting.
